TRIAD Program

TRIAD ProgramThe local TRIAD consists of the Sheriff, police chiefs, and older or retired leaders in the community who agree to work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly. Important to each TRIAD is an advisory council of law enforcement leaders and older persons which serves as a sounding board, information channel, and catalyst for renewing emphasis on reducing crimes against the elderly.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, along with TRIAD, hosts several programs and seminars to keep people informed on the growing number of scams and fraudulent activity concerning our community. One such program is the annual Senior Citizens Police (SCP) Academy which is a three hour class held every week for six weeks. Some of the topics covered in the SCP Academy include:

  • 911 communications
  • Domestic violence
  • Driving safety
  • DUI enforcement
  • Firearms safety
  • Magistrate duties
  • Substance abuse

Crime Prevention Specialist Doug Hatchell has received extensive training in all areas of crime prevention and is available to come out and speak to groups on how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft, scams, or other fraudulent acts.
